*Please note: This is compulsory to legally take guests out on guided nature walks in dangerous game areas in South Africa. Graduate with FGASA Apprentice Trails Guide Theory Certificate.

  • Safe navigation in Big Five territories.
  • Animal behaviour and tracking techniques.
  • Approaching and understanding dangerous game.
  • Wilderness safety and incident management.

You’ll complete the comprehensive Apprentice Trails Guide modules, gaining the knowledge needed to further your trails guiding career.

Course Format and Structure

Live Lectures: Interactive sessions of 1-2 hours with live Q&A.

Recordings: Access lecture recordings until the end of the year you complete the course.

Theory Reviews and Quizzes: Reinforce your learning through practical reviews.

FGASA Campus platform: Students will get access to the FGASA Campus platform, where they must complete a digital workbook

  • Online theory exam after the course (FGASA Apprentice Trails Guide exam)
  • Once the online course is completed, participants qualify for a discounted rate if they do the practical section with EcoTraining (28-Day Trails Guide Practical)

Certification and Accreditation

Participants will receive an EcoTraining Certificate of Participation six weeks after completing the course. Additionally, you’ll be equipped to write the FGASA Trails Guide status theory exam.
