๐ How To Do It
Find your spot: Sit somewhere quiet where you can see birds โ a garden bench, under a tree, near a bird feeder, or by water. Stay STILL for at least 2 minutes before the birds forget you're there.
Watch one bird: Pick one bird and follow it with your eyes for as long as you can. What is it doing? Is it feeding, singing, hopping, preening, or watching for danger?
Play Behaviour Bingo: Try to spot as many of the 9 behaviours above as you can. Tick each one off on your worksheet when you see it. Getting 3 in a row = BINGO!
Describe the craziest: Which behaviour surprised you the most? Write 2-3 sentences about it. Remember the crazy behaviours from the video โ like the woodpecker's shock-absorbing skull or the weaver bird's nest-building!
Listen too: Close your eyes for 1 minute. How many DIFFERENT bird calls can you count? Each different sound is likely a different species talking!
Ranger Tip: The best time for bird behaviour watching is early morning (6-9am) or late afternoon (4-6pm). That's when birds are most active โ feeding, singing, and displaying.
Patience trick: If you sit near a bird feeder or water source for 10 minutes without moving, the birds will come to YOU. That's how real field guides do it!
