Scout says: "Time to head outside, Rangers! You're going to become the Solar System — each of you will be a planet orbiting the Sun. Remember: My Very Excellent Mom Just Served Us Noodles!"
🎒 What You Need
Open outdoor space
8 friends or objects
Chalk or rope
Planet name tags
HOW IT LOOKS FROM ABOVE
Sun (centre)
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
📋 How To Do It
Pick a Sun: One person stands in the middle of the open area — they are the Sun! They can hold a yellow ball or wear something bright.
Assign planets: The other 8 people each become a planet, in order: Mercury (closest), Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune (farthest). If you have fewer people, use backpacks or water bottles as the outer planets.
Space out: Mercury stands about 2 steps from the Sun. Each planet stands a little further out. Neptune should be about 20 steps away!
Start orbiting: Everyone walks in a circle around the Sun. The secret? Mercury walks FAST (small circle, quick steps). Neptune walks VERY SLOWLY (huge circle, slow steps). This shows how inner planets orbit faster than outer ones!
Planet fact round: When the teacher calls "FREEZE!", each planet says their name and one cool fact they remember from the lesson.
Ranger Tip: Use chalk to draw orbit circles on the ground. This makes it easier to see the whole solar system from above — just like the diagram in your interactive activity!
Fewer than 9 people? Use rocks, bags, or cones as placeholder planets. The kid can walk around placing each object in order, naming them as they go.
